John graduated from UTAS with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 2013 and commenced practice in August 2014 after completing the Tasmanian Legal Practice Course. Before entering legal practice John worked for over 20 years in a number of Catholic schools in Tasmania as a teacher and principal, including a number of schools in greater Hobart, as well as Geeveston in the South and Wynyard in the North West.
John’s experience has been predominantly in litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular focus on planning and local government matters, including:
- planning appeals before the Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal;
- enforcement, governance and compliance issues;
- property and contract matters; and
- employment disputes.
John has also appeared for clients in criminal and civil matters in the Magistrates Court, and in the Federal Circuit Court in parenting and property disputes under the Family Law Act. John works between the Hobart and Sorell offices of Tierney Law.
